Three firms announce 145 new jobs in IT and media sectors

American technology firm Amax is to create 100 new jobs in Co Clare over the next five years. The jobs announcement follows two others – with Kilkenny-based money transfer service TransferMate announcing 25 new jobs, and Irish TV creating 20 jobs in Tralee.

Amax, which is a provider of data centre and cloud computing solutions, opened a European manufacturing facility in Shannon this morning.

The company said the facility was designed to parallel state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities and production lines in its Silicon Valley headquarters, and will feature the same level of industry-leading engineering and automation. It will provide 100 jobs in production, warehousing, finance and sales.

“The Ireland facility significantly expands our ability, capacity and network throughout the EMEA region to meet the demands of our customers,” Amax president Jean Shih said.

Global payments company TransferMate is recruiting 25 new staff for its Kilkenny headquarters.

The company is seeking to hire business development and sales staff to assist clients based in Europe, North America and Australia. The jobs will be based at the company’s 24-hour call centre in Kilkenny.

TransferMate human resources manager Stephen Hickey said the new positions were immediately available, adding that interviews would take place in the coming weeks.

He said the company added 15 new jobs in Ireland last year, while also expanding its team in the US, Australia and UK.

Barry Dowling, managing director of TransferMate Global Payments, said companies now have an alternative when it comes to making their foreign currency payments and despite having offices worldwide.

"Companies across Ireland and the UK have downsized over the past 3 years and are seeking more cost effective ways of saving money…Instead of incurring approximately 3 per cent margins using the banks Transfermate can make them savings both on the exchange rate and on banking fees along with eliminating administration".

Elsewhere, twenty new jobs will be created at Irish TV’s new regional hub in Tralee.

The posts will be in a number of media disciplines as the channel expands its range of locally-produced programming from the six Munster counties through its new regional office.

Backed by entrepreneur John Griffin, Irish TV was launched last May and delivers 40 new Irish-produced programmes every week, including 32 weekly County Matters shows.
